HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

 

 

In the year 1955, Salomon Artiaga was the first Barangay Lieutenant assigned in the place called “Annex” of the Salug River. Due to its wide and large land area bounded by the Salug River, the authorities decided to divide the place into two, the Lower and Upper Salug Daku to ensure better economic growth for its people.

At present, Barangay Upper Salug Daku offers only the basic health services to its populace. The existing Barangay Health Center is capable of providing promotive and preventive health care services. In some circumstances, the Municipal Health Officer (MHO) conducts medical mission in the barangay. The services of the Rural Health Unit, and Government and Private Hospitals are easily accessible to the people.

Barangay Upper Salug Daku is located at the heart of the municipality with vast expanse of rich and fertile agricultural land bounded in the north by Barangay Kaangayan and Guripan, in the south by Barangay Lower Salug Daku, in the east by Barangay Delusom and in the west by Barangay Sta. Cruz. The barangay is divided into four puroks. In each purok, a Barangay Councilor is assigned and is headed by a purok president.

The Barangay council in its effort to provide basic services to their constituents has crafted plans and programs where they can be of help to the people. Since the provision of basic education is one of the basic services that the Local Government Unit (LGU) will provide, the daycare services were strengthened to provide preschoolers the necessary knowledge and skills before they will enter primary education. Daycare workers were trained to equip themselves of the principles of early childhood.

ECONOMY.

Annually, the IRA of the barangay amounts to Php 856,218 and is rising steadily. The amount is relatively good, considering that the barangay has a small population. The livelihood of the people includes farming and carpentry. The major agricultural products are corn, calamansi and rice.
